A whole year...in one post!

Today is Chase's second birthday and sadly the last time I posted was one year ago today. I am trying to make a renewed effort to update this blog with our family activities for not only myself, but for the few people out there who may still check in here.

Let's just start way back a year ago......

June 2012: We went to Idaho to watch our brother in law compete in the Ironman. The kids participated in a 1 mile fun run. Here they are after the race with their medals.

July 2012: Cody celebrated his 4th birthday...Angry Birds style.

We went camping to Cape Dissapointement. The picture below is of the "shrine" that sat outside of our tent for over a day while Ryan sat next to it puking. Poor guy got food poisoning on our way to camping and had it for about 24 hrs. Not really fun when you are in the great outdoors.

August 2012: Brynn celebrated her 7th birthday.

October 2012: Halloween. We had a vampire. Queen and Mario and Luigi

December 2012: Paige had her Christmas piano recital. She is doing such a great job learning to play.

January 2013: We took the kids (along with a cousin and a friend) to the reptile zoo. They were all in heaven. They has such a great variety of snakes and reptiles. Paige lets me know all the time that she wants to be a Herpetologist when she grows up.

February 2013: We went down to Lincoln City, Or for a couple of days. Rebecca rented a vacation house for the weekend to surprise my Dad for his birthday. We met up with Shelley and John and all showed up together to surprise him. It was such a great weekend with family.

The next week, we hopped on a plane and went to Arizona for 12 days. We were able to help Ryan's mom and stepdad pack up their house for their big move back to Washington and we were also able to go to Tucson and visit with my Grandparents. We love visiting there and just wish we could do it more often.

May 2013: I ran in my first half marathon! I was pretty impressed with myself since I am not the athletic type, but I did it and it was FUN. I am currently checking out the race schedule to pick another one to do.

Paige celebrated her 10th birthday. I can't believe she is that old (or that I am old enough to have a 10 year old :). Paige is growing into a wonderful young woman. Here are 10 great things about Paige.

1. She is a great swimmer. She has been taking lessons on and off for a few years now and is very good. She has been told that she should do a water sport when she gets older. She would really like to play Water Polo in high school.

2. She is doing very well at the piano. Her piano teacher moved in May and I have taken over teaching her. I am not sure how long this will last since she has a thing about me being her teacher and the attitude comes out as soon as we hit the bench, but I am hopeful. The great thing is, is that she can pretty much teach herself as long as I am there to supervise.

3. She is going to start playing the flute next year in band.

4. She is excelling in her school work. So far she has been the kind of student that just comes home and does her work. I don't have to reminder her or nag her to do it. I hope that continues :)

5. She likes to read and will sit up on her bed reading until I make her stop.

6. She doesn't sleep very much. She tells me all the time that she wakes up early (between 5:30 and 7) and reads before we wake up. She also stays up late. Most nights she is not asleep until after 9. She has many nights where she can't sleep well and will be up a lot of the night. She has a clock on her bed so she can always know what time it is.

7. She is wearing contacts about 50% of the time now. She still likes her glasses though since they are easier.

8.  She is still super skinny, but healthy. I think she just passed the 60 lb. mark.

9. She is very emotional, both in good and bad ways. She definetely likes things done her way. I wonder where in the world she got that from?

10. She is a great big sister and daughter. She has grown up so much in the last 10 years and I couldn't be more proud of her.

Whew! Of course there are so many more things that we did over the last year, but it took me almost two hours to do this post, so this is what you get for now :)

Chase is ONE

I can't believe my baby is one today. Here are some facts about Chase:

* He has 6 teeth (4 on top, 2 on bottom)
* His unofficial wight is 20 lbs
* He only takes one nap a day for 1-3 hours
* He has yet to sleep through the night!
* He usually wakes up 2 or more times a night, sometimes for hours
* Pretty much the only way he will go back to sleep is to nurse
* He is still breastfeeding. This is a huge milestone for me. I have never made it past six months. Chase never had to have ANY formula and hasn't taken a bottle since Sept. It really is time for me to have a break :)
* He can feed himself finger foods
* He likes to eat baby cereal and baby food, but he will also eat yogurt, cheese, bread, french toast, pancakes, cheerios, bananas, applesauce, strawberries and watermelon.
* He can pull himself up to furniture and walk around it, but I don't think he is very close to walking
* He is very mischievous and gets into everything that he is not supposed to. He is my first child to play in kitchen cupboards and drawers
* He is a complete mama's boy and really doesn't like anyone else if I am around.
* His favorite toys are balls and cars because he can hit them across the wood floors and chase them
* He has started to throw temper tantrums by screaming and flinging his head back
* He does not like it when someone takes his toy and he lets you know it!
* He does not say any words yet, but he makes lots of sounds
* His hair is still red, but I think it is growing in blonder. I am afraid to cut it because I don't want the red to disappear
* He is still a sweet little cuddler when he wants to be and I love it!

Chase did not want the birthday hat on:

We had cinnamon rolls for his birthday treat because I thought he would like them better than a cupcake. No such luck :( He ate one bite.

Chase at his family party about 2 weeks before his actual birthday. He doesn't really understand why everyone is looking at him.

Let's blow out the candle.

Random happenings

3-16 Paige competed in the speedstack finals at school. She didn't finish in the top two, but we are pretty sure she was third. She was so nervous, but she was composed and did great!
3-26 Paige and Cody both had their tonsils and adenoids out. It was a pretty long two weeks of recovery for them (and me). Cody seemed to have a much easier time than Paige did, but I think they were both troopers and they hardly ever whined. Now they can both breath through their noses!
3-27 Chase's new trick, standing in his bed instead of sleeping.
3-29 Chase being mischievous pulling all the wipes out of the container. He thought he was so clever.
4-23 Cody just wanted to eat his lunch outside. Funny little boy.

4-21 Chase can reach the piano and loves to play it.

Well, that's all folks....until next time.

Disneyland

In February we took a trip to Disneyland with some extended family. We did three (very full) days at Disneyland and California Adventure. The weather was so warm and perfect. Our kids did pretty well. Chase was a trooper and was never really unhappy the whole trip. Cody was a little whiny the whole time and wanted Ryan to carry him everywhere. We realized the second day that he was sick (right after we had him ride the Tower of Terror). Poor kid had a fever and slept half the day away riding around in Chase's stroller while I carried Chase. Cody did enjoy riding the Buzz and Toy Story rides, but I felt so bad for him. Paige and Brynn on the other hand had a great time and loved every minute. They are ride junkies and the bigger and faster the ride, the more they like it. We rode single rider a lot on Splash Mountain and California Screamin', but since you have to be seven to do that, Brynn missed out. Apparently seven is the magic age, so we may not be going back until Chase is seven. I think the favorite for everyone was the World of Color show. That was great and a great way to end our trip.

Back in January we had a power outage. I snapped this pic of Ryan making our breakfast of eggo waffles over the fire.

1st haircut and 1st tooth

On Monday the 12th, I finally broke down and had Chase's hair cut. It was getting way too long and I couldn't keep it out of his face.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

He looks so much more grown up and so handsome. The next day I realized he had is very first tooth! He has also started getting up on his hands and knees and rocking. He is not my little baby anymore, but he sure is fun!

6 months old!

How can he be 6 months old already! Chase is such a great baby and he is our first child that really likes me more than anyone else. Sometimes it is annoying, but deep down I LOVE that he is a momma's boy. Here are some tid bits about him:

He does not sleep through the night (I created a monster and he will only really sleep next to me, including naps)

He is still nursing (Yay!)

He is eating a good sized bowl of food two times a day

He weighs about 16 1/2 lbs.

He rolls over both ways, but loves being on his tummy

He loves playing in both his jumper and his saucer (sometimes for hours :)

He still has just one dimple

His hair is getting out of control and he might have been mistaken for a girl a couple of times

His eyes stayed BLUE (he is the only one)

I love this boy sooooo much!
