1st SNOW

Here are the pictures of our first snow. We just got a little dusting at our house and it only lasted a few hours, but it is still fun. On the other hand, we had quite the adventure last night.....Ryan and I went to the King County Optometric Society Holiday Dinner with his Dad and step-mom (his dad drove in his SUV, luckily). We dropped our kids (including Chad) at my SIL's house at 5:00 and headed to Seattle. At this point it wasn't even snowing and really wasn't supposed to. So we enjoyed our dinner and entertainment and headed for home about 9:30. All was going well until about 20 minutes into our drive. In Seattle it was lightly raining. Twenty minutes later in Maple Valley (where SIL and FIL live) we hit the snow. It started lightly and kept getting worse. We went from clear roads, to a little slush, to compact snow four inches deep. This may not be much for some of you, but it's too much for some here in WA to deal with. We of course were fine in the SUV and my FIL is a very careful driver. Other people on the road were having some difficulty though. We saw cars in ditches and cars stranded at the bottom of hills. It really was an adventurous drive home. We only came close to hitting someone once, and that is because 3 cars, included a State Trooper (What was he thinking?) were stopped in the middle of the Hwy and some guy was standing at the State Trooper's car talking to him. Because the road was totally slick we didn't think we could stop, so my FIL laid on the horn. Well, no harm done. So now it is 10:15 or so and we call my SIL and tell her to put our poor tired children down for bed because we might not be able to make it to her house. Ya, we didn't even attempt to get up her hill to her house so our kids stayed there and we camped out at Ryan's dad's house. Luckily for me I had my car kit in Ryan's car so I didn't have to sleep in my dress clothes. So thankful for being prepared! Well, this morning we got up and it was raining and the roads were anywhere from slushy to bare so we went and got the girls and headed home to get ready for church. We were afraid that even if we got the girls last night we wouldn't make it home. Well, when we got back to Auburn (where we live) it hadn't even snowed. Okay, we only live 15 minutes from Maple Valley, go figure. Apparently Maple Valley was in some little pocket and only they got snow. It was quite and adventure!
