8 lbs. 15oz. 20 1/2 in long
Here are some details for those who care:
First off, I was not due until the 15th, and I have never had a baby come early (that wasn't forced), so I was not really ready for this. I was kind of joking at Paige's baptism on Saturday, that the baptism was the last thing on my calendar, so I could have this baby anytime and it would be okay. I felt great at the baptism and the whole afternoon after while we had our get together. It wasn't until the kids were in bed and I went to my spot on the couch to unwind and watch a little tv that I started feeling some contractions. This was at 9:30. Now, I always have braxton hicks and they tend to be uncomfortable at this point and pretty often. These were a little different though, with lower back pain with each one. You would think after doing this three other times, that I could be confident of what was happening. I never want to get my hopes up though. When Ryan headed off to bed, he jokingly asked if we were going to have a baby soon. I laughed it off. Of course NOT! I headed off to bed not really thinking anything was happening. I don't think I slept more that a 30 min chunk the whole night. I kept having contractions 12-30 minutes apart. I was still in denial at this point. At 7:15 I got up to get ready for church. There was no way I wanted to miss Paige being welcomed the newest member of the ward, and I would want a shower anyway if I really was in labor. At this point my contractions still were painful, but not very close together. To be on the safe side, I had Ryan pack bags for himself and the kids and put them in the car. We headed off to church and every time I had a contraction, Ryan would look at me with that look of "are we leaving yet?". I really didn't want my whole family to get up and walk out in the middle of Sacrament, so we stayed. We left as soon as it was over and headed home to change and figure out a game plan. I am still in semi-denial at this point. Ryan on the other hand thinks we need to go to the hospital now. I wasn't even crying yet, I still had time. We called some family and figured out where we were going to take our kids for the day and possibly night, and then headed over to drop them off. We kind of took our time and hung out for a little while waiting for my contractions to get closer together. I finally conceded that we could go to the hospital when they were consistently 7 min apart.
We arrived at the hospital at 1:15 pm and I was at a 4. I was hoping that my labor was progressing enough that they would keep me. Ryan was confident that there was no way they were sending me home. He was right.
I was finally moved to my room at 3:15 and at 3:30 got the much needed epidural.
At 4:20 they broke my water and I was almost a 9.
I started pushing at 6:05 and Chase was born at 6:55.
Now, things could have gone a little faster, but at 5:30 when I was at a 10 and ready to push, my doctor was called out because a women came in with her baby practically hanging out of her. That put me behind a little. Also, Chase was face up until the last set of pushes when the doctor turned him, so he had a little tougher time descending. All in all though, it was a super easy labor and delivery. A little TMI here: I have made it 4 for 4 without tearing or having an episiotimy. I am kind of proud of that!
